As the heartbreaking crisis across our country has laid bare, a deep hate still divides our nation and true equity and inclusion remain elusive. At the University of Pittsburgh, we are speaking out in solidarity with our black students, colleagues, neighbors and friends. We remain focused on building a future where black Americans, and all minoritized Americans, receive the same treatment—and can access the same opportunities—as their white peers.
George Floyd's death is yet another unnecessary tragedy, another name we must mournfully say, and another involuntary harbinger for change. As a country and society, we can and must do better. Black lives matter—and depend on all of us to reject racism and discrimination of any kind.
